Candida
Infections
There are many types of candida
infections that can infect the human body. The most common
candida infections I have listed below and have expanded upon
each type of infection in the linked subpages. I hope you find
them useful and it helps you to gain the knowledge needed to
conquer your infection.
Vaginal Thrush is often called
a vaginal yeast infection and affects almost every woman at
some point in their lives. Many women get multiple infections
every year and some women get them every month around
ovulation. American women spent over a half a billion dollars
for treatment of vaginal thrush in 2002 alone. Most
of this was spent on over the counter medications which
generally are effective as a temporary solution. More on Vaginal Thrush...
Oral Thrush is another common
candida infection but not near as common as vaginal thrush. It
has been around since Hippocrates and existed before candida
was even discovered. It was often described as a "membrane of
lard" because it typically is composed of white oral plaques on
the inside of the mouth that look like spots of
lard. This candida infection is most prevelant in
infants, old age, and the terminally ill. More on Oral Thrush...
Candida of the skin
and nails, with toenail fungus being the
most common, are usually a result of internal candidosis or
candida infections at other places of the body.
It can inflict infants soon after birth and is often associated
with some kind of immune system cellular defect. It can also
get into the scalp and cause hair loss in some individuals and
dandruff has been said to be a symptom of candida infections of
the skin. More on

Mucocutaneous candida
infections are when the patient suffers from oral
thrush, candida of the skin and nails all at the same
time, that usually persists for many years. People with this
condition almost always have a leukocyte dysfunction of some
kind. This condition is extremely rare but has generated a lot
of interest within the medical community.
In 88 confirmed candida infections of
the urinary tract between 1964 and 1980 in
adults, 41% were males, and 59% were females. The largest age
group was from 40 to 59 years old and 43% of these people had
diabetes. 75% had frequent urinary problems and
16% had had a kidney transplant at one time. It is
believed that most of these infections go undetected in women
that have chronic vaginal yeast infections. More on Candida

Candida infections of the
intestine were first discovered in 1771 by Rosenstein
who wrote about oral thrush, "It is very difficult when it
descends to the fauces, stomach, and intestines." Underwood in
1784 stated that thrush, " is said to extend into the stomach
and through the whole length of the intestines; producing also
a redness about the anus". This topic is what this site
generally deals with and the treatment system on the treatment
page is designed around these types of
infections.
There are also candida infections of the
respiratory system, cardiovascular system, eyes, bones
and joints, liver, and allergies. I will be writing about
them and adding them to this site as time permits.
